The Sheraton Hotel is one of the most striking buildings on the Corniche, it's best described as a space age pyramid. It can be seen anywhere on the Corniche (a sea front promenade that the people of Doha are very proud of). I spent a pleasant few hours strolling along the Corniche (all 5km of it) watching the sun set behind the Gulf. I ended up at the Sheraton, but couldn't face the walk back, so I hailed a taxi!
Just up the road from my hotel, looming over a duel carriage way was an archway created from two massive swords, it reminded me a lot of the one in Baghdad that's been on TV so much..
Much of downtown Doha is a building site, and in that respect it must be resemble Dubai in the early Nineties. But all the heavy building work takes place in the cool of the night, so as I was walking around Doha as the sun was setting I saw many buses shipping the construction workers to their 'days' work.
I spotted that there was a Carrefour supermarket in Doha, and I remembered that the one in Dubai stocked my favourite Japanese ion drink - Pocari Sweat, so I had a wander through the aisles and spotted the blue logo! I got 8 cans, and dragged them back to the fridge in my hotel room.
