Okay hands up, Tehran is not a pretty city. I was only there for a day, and that conensided with most of the interesing museums being closed for the day. So finding stuff to fill my time was a challenge. But I managed it.
I ended up in the glass and ceramic musemu which is housed in a fabulious old building that used to be the Egyptian Embassy. It turned out that I found the building, especally the huge wooden staircase more intersting than the exhibits in it.
Tehran is another city sitting at the base of a range of snow capped moutains - you can ski in the morning and be back in the city by the afternoon!
I also took the metro up the ex-American embassy in the north of the city. You can still see the seal of the US on the wall, but it has taken a bit of a battering. The words are almost scratched out. There are also a number of murals painted on the wall - the most stiking being one of the Statue of Liberty but with the face being replaced with a skull.
