Northern Ireland

Day 2 - Fri 25 Nov 2006

Up early for an Ulster breakfast checked out, and then headed for the coast. Found that the Foyle ferry is running, so it's possible to head north into Southern Ireland, and all for 11 quid return. Excellent - one trip, two countries. That's what countrybagging is all about.

Malin Head

Drove up to Malin Head (star of the Shipping Forecast) the most northerly point of Ireland. Visited the "Wee House of Malin" where there is a nice shingle beach, and a waterfall. Then it was back to the ferry, and onwards to Bushmills. Arrived just in time to take the 15:30 tour of the Distillery. Just before the tour the fire alarm went off, and everyone had to troop out into the car park in the pouring rain. The tour was very good, and I got to see a lot of the whiskey making process. As I was leaving the site they had a power cut!

Drove on to the B&B checked in, and then headed into the local town Ballymoney to eat, which I did in a very interesting restaurant based in an old doctors surgery!
